Understanding Gold Sizes: From 0.25g to 1kg

March 20, 20264 min read

Gold comes in many weights. The right size depends on your budget, liquidity needs, and storage options. At Lebanor the range splits into two families: **ounces from 0.25g to 100g**, and **bars from 250g to 1kg**.

Small ounces (0.25g – 10g)

Ideal for first-time buyers and gifts. Lower total cost but a higher premium per gram, since the minting work costs roughly the same whatever the weight. Easy to store at home or in a safe deposit box.

Medium ounces (15.55g – 100g)

Popular with regular savers. This band includes the half ounce (15.55g) and the full troy ounce (31.10g), the most widely quoted unit in the market. Better per-gram value than the smallest sizes while remaining divisible enough for partial sales.

Bars (250g – 1kg)

Best for institutional buyers or long-term holders. Lowest premium per gram, but they require secure storage and larger upfront capital, and they can only be sold whole.

What about silver?

Silver uses a different set of weights. Our silver ounces come in 31.10g and 100g — including the Baalbek, Jeita Grotto and Raouche editions — and silver bars run from 250g to 1kg.
